Technical Textiles
The term technical textile was coined in the 1985s to describe the ever-increasing variety of products and hosiery production techniques developed for their technical properties and performance rather than their appearance and aesthetic characteristics. Because the term industrial textile was insufficient to express the richness and complexity of this rapidly growing field, the term technical textile was used instead. However, the term industrial textiles is still widely used in the USA.
When technical textiles are mentioned, materials and products in sock production that are produced primarily for their technical performance and functional properties rather than their aesthetic and decorative features are understood. Materials that are specially designed, used in any product or process or used alone to fulfill a specific feature are called technical textiles.
Technical textiles are expensive, high value-added hosiery products. They are resistant to chemicals, weather conditions, micro-organisms and have superior performance features such as high strength and non-flammability. These products are also used in areas other than textiles; however, the buyer does not use the technical textile product itself, it is used as a part of any other material, in the production of socks of that material.
